The Friendly Visitor
There is nothing like a good friend...
Horizon Friendly Visitors are truly unique individuals autographing their lives with love and excellence. Volunteers are trained to provide (2) hours of weekly emotional & social care to hospice patients and families, assisting in the following ways: companionship, respite for the care giver, facilitating Life Review, assistance with house hold chores, and helping to create a positive atmosphere that allows the patient to feel comfort & dignity.
If you are looking to serve in a significant way, please consider volunteering as Friendly Visitor. Being in the presence of one who is completing his or her circle of life is an honor & a joy that will always remain in your heart. Due to the interest of or patients, we are seeking daytime volunteers! We will not deny volunteers who only have evening/weekend availabilty - most requests are for those who can provide daytime service at this time.
One must be comfortable with the final stages of life if interested in this role, as our volunteers step into the patient's home during an immensely fragile period. Often, one will recall personal losses or question their own mortality when in the presence of our Hospice patients and families. It is essential that Friendly Visitors are screened and trained so that they are confident providing this special service.
All Friendly Visitors are treated like Horizon employees and are required to be (18) years of age. The screening process consists of: an interview, orientation, a medical visit and criminal & driving record background checks.
